How To Remove White Film From Tinted Windows

If you have tinted windows on your vehicle, you may notice that over time, there is a white film that starts developing on the windows. This may be due to a number of different things, such as improper cleaning of the windows, road salt, air pollutants, or soap build-up. It is possible to clean the windows of this thin, white film by using the following simply methods:

Use Vinegar

The first product you can use to remove the white film from your tinted windows is vinegar. This is a great option because it is a natural product that is Eco-friendly and that you probably already have at home.

You will need to dilute the vinegar by mixing equal parts vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle, then mixing well. Spray the diluted vinegar directly onto the windows. Use a clean cloth to wipe the windows down, allowing the cloth to grab hold of the white film and remove it.

If there are large windows with a lot of white film, the process might need to be repeated.

Vinyl Window Cleaner

Vinyl windows that are tinted and have this unattractive white film may need a special type of window cleaner. There are cleaners that are specifically meant for vinyl windows and that are available at any home supply or hardware store. The formula is gentle enough to use on vinyl windows of different tips.

The process is similar to using vinegar, by spraying it on the windows and wiping it away using a cloth. However, wetting the cloth is often necessary for this type of cleaner. To prevent water stains, use a second cloth to dry the windows after cleaning off the white film.

Glass Window Cleaner

If all you have on hand is a regular glass cleaner, that will also work, but make sure it does not contain ammonia. You cannot use ammonia window cleaners on windows that have been tinted. Spray the window cleaner on your windows and use a soft cloth to wipe it away, along with the white film. This often needs to be repeated as it may not remove all of the white film the first time around.

If you have this white film shortly after getting your windows tinted, you must wait at least a month before cleaning them. You are not supposed to wash tinted windows for at least a month, or else you might have to get the tinting done again. Do not use sponges or paper towels on tinted windows.
